Description: This award goes to the best freshman wrestler in the state.

 

Breakdown: There were two freshman that came away with state titles this season, but one stands out a bit more than  the others. Only one freshman beat a returning state qualifier to win his first state title, and that is New Castle's Tylin Thrine. Thrine was a menace to his opponents all year, picking up falls over several guys with state medals. Thrine capped off a perfect season with a 42-0 record and a state title in his first season on the mat. Behind Thrine is another freshman state champion, Brownsburg Revin Dickman. Dickman wrestled a "freshman" weight, which hurt his case here a bit. Coming in 3rd is Avon's Nate Rioux who was Dickman's finals opponent. Congrats to Tylin Thrine on winning this year's Hoosiermat Rookie of the Year Award.
