Indiana at Fargo | Freestyle Results

With freestyle wrestling having concluded at the Fargo Dome, let's take a look at how Indiana wrestled during the week. 

On the 16U side, Indiana finished 6th with 88 points. Incoming freshman Lincoln Hinchman, Brownsburg, was able to bring home hardware in his first trip out west, finishing 6th at 150. At 126, Lowell's Noel Verduzco took a step forward this year, placing 5th after a 7th-place finish a year ago at 120. Hamilton Southeastern's A.W. VanKirk took 4th place at 285, while Bloomington South's Josiah Stanton finished 3rd after coming home empty-handed a year ago. Indiana did put two in the finals, with Evansville Mater Dei's Spenser McCammon and Cathedral's Jeremy Carver making it at 120 and 126, respectively. McCammon went 6-1 with three tech-falls on his way to a runner-up finish. Carver also came in as the top seed, and he lived up to it, going 7-0 on his way to a Fargo title. Carver picked up a tech-fall and fall in his first two matches and never trailed in amatc until his finals. Down 4-2 at the break, a takedown and a big four-point move late gave Carver the 8-4 win over Larkin of Arizona. 

Switching to Juniors, we finished 6th here as well with 98 points. Eight wrestlers will bring hardware back to Indiana. Brownsburg's Traevon Ducking and New Palestine's William Glesing both finished 8th at 113 and 285, respectively. Ducking had a huge upset early in the tournament, taking out the #3 ranked wrestler in the country, Lincoln Valdez from Colorado, in the consolation quarters. Ducking had two teammates who also got stop signs this weekend. Alex Huddleston finished 6th at 106, and Braylon Reynolds had a run that finally ended in the finals. Reynolds had one match go the distance up until the finals, with four techs and two falls. Center Grove's Peyton Hornsby came in as a returning 16U champion, looking to take home a title in his first crack at Juniors. He ended up going 8-1, finishing 3rd at 150 in his first year up at Juniors. Hornsby ended the tournament with six techs and a fall. Crown Point's Cesar Salas went 8-2 at 215 in his first try at Juniors. Salas took out 17th-ranked Carter Brown, of Missouri, on his way to a 4th-place finish. Avon's Nate Rioux made Indiana history this week when he placed for the 7th time at the Fargodome. By placing 3rd at 132, Rioux became the first-ever 7-time Fargo All-American in Indiana history. Check out the article on him for a more detailed rundown. Boonville's Sam Howard was the lone champion on the Junior side. Howard had himself a tournament, taking out #9 Ladd Holman of Utah, #18 Decker Bechtold of Pennsylvania, and #14 Daniel Moylan of California on his way to a title. Howard finished 6-0, with three techs and a fall.
