Indiana at Who's Number One

Who's Number One (WNO) is an event FloWrestling puts on to help determine who will start the year as the top-ranked wrestler in their respective weight class. Over the last 13 years of this event's existence, Indiana has had 11 wrestlers, including our movers, compete, and we have had a representative in 11 of the 13 events. This year, four Indiana wrestlers will be heading to Stillwater to try to earn the title of the best in the country. FloWrestling's Who's Number One takes place September 26th at the historic Gallagher-Iba Arena and will be streaming live on FloWrestling.org

Clinton Shepherd, Crown Point

It was more quality over quantity for Shepherd this offseason as he only hit four events, but the events he hit were full of elite competition. He started with an impressive 3rd-place finish at the U20 National Championships, avenging his only loss of the tournament in the 3rd-place match. Shepherd followed that up by making the U20 World Team Trials final, taking out three top 10 guys on his way. Next up for Clinton was Junior Duals, where he posted 7 techfalls, all in the first period, to help Indiana finish second as a team.

Sam Howard, Boonville

Boonville's Sam Howard has had a great summer as he has continued to climb the ranks. Howard went 25-5 this offseason, competing at several national events and dominating a tough freestyle state bracket that included another nationally ranked opponent. Howard capped off his summer by winning a freestyle title at Fargo a month ago. Howard will look to take over the top spot at 215 after finishing the year and entering Fargo unranked.

Maddie Marsh, Pendleton Heights

Only two other girls from Indiana have competed at W.N.O., but both came up short. Maddie Marsh looks to end that. Marsh started her offseason by going 3-2 at the Grand View Open, which is impressive for anyone who hasn't hit a college room yet, let alone a junior in high school. She followed that up with a runner-up finish at the U20 National Championships. 29-7 this offseason, with three of those losses coming to Michigan's Alexis Lazar before she got her revenge in the Fargo finals. Marsh also picked up a PanAm championship to go along with her Fargo title this summer.

Braylon Reynolds, Brownsburg

While not as busy as the other two, Braylon Reynolds has had just as impressive a summer. Posting an 18-2 record, Reynolds dominated his way to a Central Regional title to start the offseason. Reynolds then posted a 6-1 record at Junior Duals, including a crazy 17-15 win over a top-5 kid in the country to help Indiana make the finals. He followed that strong showing with a runner-up finish at Fargo, which included a win against the one kid who beat him at the duals.
