Team Overview:

This team race is a two man race, which everyone sort of knew coming in. Based on predictions, Brownsburg and Crown Point are going to be on their own sometime Saturday, with the projected 3rd place team, Evansville Mater Dei, being nearly 40 points behind the next team. This race comes down to a few key weights since each team has kids that have very slim chances of getting beat this weekend. The first weight is 106. Hockaday should make the finals on his half but will have to get past Nathan Smith and Jeffrey Bailey. He could stumble against either one of those guys. Gavin Jeandreas is not favored to win against any of the guys he would have to see in order to make the finals, so it will be a tall task for him to make the finals. Crown Point can make up some points there if he can make a run. Another weight that is big for the team race is 160. Cody Goodwin is my pick to win the weight, but he could also drop to 4th due to the parity at this weight. That would kill Crown Point’s chances of trying to capture a state title. The next weight that is big is 182. The two frontrunners have guys that will meet in the semifinals. The reason this match is so big is because the winner, obviously, makes the finals, but I think that whoever loses here finishes 4th so that is a 9 point swing that could determine the team race, especially since it will take place so late in the tournament. The final weight to watch for this team race is 195. Will Clark has a tough match against Ronin Hammond Friday night. If Clark wins here, I would replace him with Hammond in the predictions, giving Crown Point an additional 6 points, bringing them within 1 point of Brownsburg. Obviously both teams have to take care of business and win the matches they are supposed to, and they will need their hammers to score bonus points. Crown Point’s guys seem to score bonus at a bit higher rate, and having Jesse Mendez on your team helps since he will likely pin everyone he wrestles this weekend. I want to take Crown Point here, and I will, but Snyder has found ways when no one thought they would and have walked away with a title.
