Mater Dei vs Perry Meridian

September 7, 2018

106

#1 Alex Cottey vs #5 Alec Freeman

This is a big match up between two kids that expect to finish high on the podium at the end of the year. Alec Freeman steps into the line up with Cole Ross up at 113, and has hit the ground running, but he hasn’t wrestled a wrestler the caliber of Alex Cottey this year. The returning state runner-up at the weight will look for bonus as he has had only one match go the distance this year.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Alex Cottey MD Alec Freeman

113

Andrew Haggerty vs #4 Cole Ross

Cole Ross is still unbeaten on the year and looking to build from last season where he made it to Banker’s Life. He comes in as a heavy favorite and will look to score big points for the Wildcats. Andrew Haggerty was thrown into the lineup, not being the original stater at the weight, but he has come into his own with his two losses both coming to Warren Central’s David Pierson. Look for him to slow down Ross and make it a match.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Cole Ross Dec Andrew Haggerty

120

James Sturgis vs #2 Blake Boarman

Blake Boarman is almost in a league of his own on the mat and will look to pick up 6 for the Wildcats. Perry Meridian’s James Sturgis will look to manage the match, but I think Boarman will have too much for him and will end the match before the 6min mark.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Boarman TF James Sturgis

126

Anthony Cotter vs #8 Kane Egli

Kane Egli is two years removed from a state finals appearance, but he looks to be back this year as he’s been rolling through guys so far this season. He will wrestle technically sound wrestler in Perry’s Anthony Cotter. Cotter has looked good this season, but the question is can he go the distance as he has gassed pretty bad in a few matches this year.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Kane Egli MD Anthony Cotter

132

#9(at 138) Gabe Smith vs #9 Clay Egli

After a 4-1 decision in the ticket round to last year’s state champ, Asa Garcia, Clay Egli is looking to finally make an appearance. Across from him is a wrestler trying to do the same thing after missing weight at regionals last year. This will a big match in deciding the winner of the dual. On paper Clay Egli is the favorite but Gabe Smith is funky and has a tendency to put guys on their back. The biggest question here though is if he can manage the match because he does give up points in bunches on occasion.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Clay Egli MD Gabe Smith

138

Ridge Cavallaro vs Blaine Mayer

Blaine Mayer has been biding his time and is finally in the lineup for the Wildcats. They will be looking for bonus from him against Ridge Cavallaro to widen the gap agianst the Falcons.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Blaine Mayer WBF Ridge Cavallaro

145

#1 Aiden Warren vs #2 Matt Lee

This is the marquee matchup of the dual as we have the top two kids at the weight squaring off. Matt Lee is a two time placer and has looked like he jumped levels over the summer. The same can be said about Perry Meridians Aiden Warren who has been on fire this year beating returning state runner up Cayden Rooks and returning 5th placer Antwuan Graves already this season.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Aiden Warren Dec Matt Lee

152

#6 Sam Fair vs #4 Eli Dickens

This matchup pits two wrestlers who would rather be on top than neutral. Returning state runner-up Sam Fair is looking to bounce back after taking loses the past two weekends. He will wrestle a retuning state qualifier in Eli Dickens who has shown he can go with anybody and has the wins to prove it.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Sam Fair Dec Eli Dickens

160

#12 Noah Baker vs #13 Gabe Sollars

This is a big toss up match for this dual as each team has a solid yet unproven commodity in each wrestler. The Falcons Noah Baker has looked good this far in the season and will be up against a freshman hammer in Gabe Sollars.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Noah Baker Dec Gabe Sollars

170

#10 Brooks Davis vs #8 Macartney Parkinson

Returning state placer Brooks Davis looks to get use to his new weight class as he takes on Mater Dei’s Macartney Parkinson who is also up from 152. Both guys are looking to add another marquee win to their already long resumes.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Brooks Davis Dec Macartney Parkinson

182

Jared Clayton vs Dakx Lannert

This starts the slate of matches that I think will determine the dual. The first one being at 182 where two smaller 182 pounders will look to win this very big swing match. Mater Dei’s Dakx Lannert has a motor and will look to push the pace, but the Falcon’s Jared Clayton has finds a way to put guys on their back let’s see if he can do it again.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Dakx Lannert Dec Clayton

195

#13 Austin Lane vs John McGrew

Austin Lane is the heavy favorite in this match and will need to pick up 6 in order for the Falcons to have a shot in this dual. Mater Dei’s John McGrew will be coached as he tries to prevent a quality decision.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Austin Lane WBF John McGrew

220

Alex Holliday vs Joseph Crowe

This match up is against two role players for each team. This is a toss up match against two kids still trying to get their feet wet at the varsity level. Perry Meridian’s Alex Holliday brings in a slightly better record and on paper should take this match.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Alex Holliday Dec Will Crowe

285

#11 Sam Jones vs Matthew Woodruff

Perry needs a fall at this weight plain and simple, which is good for them because Sam Jones is a pinner. He has a tendency to give up big points trying to get guys to their backs so look for Mater Dei’s Matthew Woodruff to capitalize if a mistake is made.

HOOSIERMAT PREDCTION: Sam Jones WBF Matthew Woodruff
