Tournament Preview:

While there are few ranked kids here, there are a lot of good wrestlers from every team involved and a lot of guys on the cusp of entering the rankings. We should get an early ranked match-up between 5th ranked Nathan Willman, North Posey, and 10th ranked Reese Wicker or Churubusco. As far as the team race goes for the smaller class, the teams with the more “sure” things should pull away here. I see pulling away due to this. 2 top 10 guys that will likely score bonus every match helps. It also gives you the flexibility to bump one of those guys up and have a guy come in and beat a guy that isn’t very good. I see North Posey being the second best team here, but they will have Attica on their side of the bracket and will likely settle for 3rd. Attica has a lot of depth and brought back a lot of semi-state level guys from last years team, and I can see them at the top when it’s all said and done.

Tournament Preview:

This should be a very competitive field with no heavy favorites.  Oak Hill is a solid team but did graduate a lot from last years team. Same thing is true with Wawasee, who just finished 14th at the Al Smith. Bellmont comes in with a lot of hammers in their line-up and have the team that can make a run. Caiden Friedt showed last weekend that he can go with the best guys in the state. The only ranked match-up we are guaranteed is between 7th ranked Hayden Brady and 12th ranked Logan Stuckman in the pools. I see Bellmont meeting up with Wawasee in the finals with Wawasee pulling away.

Hoosiermat Pick: Wawasee

Tournament Preview:

The main event. There will be 72 ranked guys wrestling so you’re guaranteed some good matchups. Evansville Mater Dei has looked amazing this year, and with the addition of Hayhust in their line-up they have to be the on-paper favorites to walk away with the title here. Cathedral was expected to win it last year, but fell a bit short, and I don’t believe this year’s team is as good as the one from a year ago. One team everyone seems to be overlooking is are the 4-time defending champions, Brownsburg. Last year at this time no one believed that they could win it but them, and they always seem to find a way to win it this time of year. On the other side Warren and Perry should have an interesting dual, but I see them topping out at 4th. Outside of the top 5 I don’t see any upsets in the pools, and other than the 4 v 5 dual, I don’t see the others being too competitive. I see Mater Dei coming through after coming up short so many years and winning a title this year.
